Build strategic sustainability for data modernization: overview

A critical success factor for data modernization is to plan for sustainability, what we might call strategic sustainability. This is particularly important given the “boom or bust” nature of funding for public health. Strategic sustainability is having a long-range view and plan so that clear priorities are in place when funding opportunities arise. It is not only about how to spend today’s funds but how to optimize tomorrow’s.

Strategic sustainability involves short- and long-term planning for:

  • Technology development and acquisition
  • Workforce development
  • Processes and procedures
  • Funding
  • Root cause identification
  • Future technology
