Bridging the gap in hearing loss intervention with data

One of the most common birth defects in the U.S. is hearing loss. In fact, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, three in 1,000 infants in the U.S. are born with moderate, severe or profound hearing loss. These children face many developmental delays as they age, such as speech, language and learning impairments. Because of this growing public health challenge and need for intervention, we were eager to be a part of the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) project funded by the CDC. The project seeks to encourage data exchange between public health agencies and community partners to emphasize the importance of early hearing detection screening.

In the video below, I go into a little more depth about EHDI, PHII’s role and how we think the timely exchange of data can be a part of the solution.
